A close-up of two mulberry silk fabrics—one in soft sage green and one in champagne—draped from the opening of a front-load washing machine, illustrating gentle machine washing for silk care.

Silk Care

1. Gentle Washing: Hand wash silk in lukewarm water with a mild detergent specifically formulated for delicate fabrics. Avoid using harsh detergents or bleach, as they can damage the fibers.

2. Avoid Soaking: Do not soak silk for extended periods. A quick wash is best to prevent the fabric from losing its sheen and weakening.

3. Drying: Lay silk flat on a clean, dry towel and gently roll it to remove excess water. Avoid wringing or twisting the fabric. Allow it to air dry away from direct sunlight or heat sources, as these can fade or weaken the material.

4. Ironing: If necessary, iron silk on a low setting while the fabric is slightly damp. Place a clean pressing cloth between the silk and the iron to prevent direct heat contact and avoid creating shiny spots.

5. Storage: Store silk items in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and humidity. Use breathable fabric bags or tissue paper to protect against dust and avoid using plastic covers, which can trap moisture.

6. Spot Cleaning: For stains, blot (don’t rub) the area gently with a clean, damp cloth and use a mild stain remover suitable for silk. Test the stain remover on a hidden part of the fabric first to ensure it doesn’t cause discoloration.
